Trash Rules
The city has definitive rules on what constitutes trash or recycling items. Some items require payment of a fee, including tires, TV sets, microwaves, gas grills, etc. In fairness, we believe some items have been dumped by outsiders and we are asking Madison Police to increase evening/night patrols when possible. Fines for dumping or littering can be hefty!
Large items not in a bin cannot be placed on the terraces until a work order is filed with City Streets online or by phone to 608-266-4681. Large items cannot be placed on the terrace until the night before scheduled pickup.
Trash is unsightly and possibly dangerous to children and adults alike. Large cardboard boxes must be cut down so they fit in the recycling bin. Some items may contain toxic or hazardous chemicals that can flow into stormwater drains. These items must be in closed containers to prevent spills. Propane cylinders or gas grill tanks are prohibited at all times. For detailed information, go to CityofMadison.com/StreetsWest or call Streets West at 608-266-4681.
If you see what appears to be illegal dumping, please contact PRHA Board of Directors and/or Madison Police non-emergency line at 608-255-2345. We greatly appreciate everyone’s cooperation with the guidelines above. Let’s all work together to keep our neighborhood looking great at all times!
Normal trash collection (tan cart) is scheduled for every Friday morning, and recyclables (green cart) are scheduled for every OTHER Friday morning. Trash not in the bins will not be picked up at any time, and if left on the terraces, you may be fined for leaving it there.
Carts may be moved to the terrace after 6 PM on the day before pickup. Carts must be picked up and returned to your property no later than 6 PM on the day of pickup.
PRHA Board of Directors may be reached at 608-628-4045 or by email from the “Contact Us” page on our website, PRHAMadison.org.
